10.03.10 Edale Ditch Project...

In February 2010, a section of the embankment along the high speed train line from Altringham to Chesterfield was at risk of destabilising due to surface water run-off from surrounding fields. Network Rail needed to resolve the issue quickly with minimum disruption of services and time on site for contractors. A further issue was the limited access due to the proximity of the train line and adjacent farmer’s field. Based on the success of previous ditching trials, Network Rail decided to utilise Concrete Cloth to upgrade and line an existing trench. Concrete Cloth minimised the time on site, saving cost and improving safety for personnel. Click here to download the case study.

CC was significantly quicker and easier to install than conventional concrete slab construction, reducing the project cost and time on site. The Concrete Cloth was supplied in man portable rolls for ease of use on a site with limited access. Click here to download the case study.

Concrete Canvas and the other final nominees were exhibited for six weeks in an array of large acrylic spheres in Kongens Nytorv square in central Copenhagen. These have since relocated to Korea, featuring in the 2007 Gwangju Design Biennale, where they will be exhibited from October 5 & November 3. Visit http://www.indexaward.dk for further information.
